Flowers

A flower, which is also called a bloom or blossom. Is the part of a plant that makes seeds. The biological purpose of a flower is to help the plant reproduce. This is usually done by making it possible for sperm and eggs to join together. Flowers can help outcrossing. Which is when sperm and eggs from different people in a population join together. Or they can help selfing. Which is when sperm and eggs from the same flower join together.

Self-pollination and cross-pollination are the two types of pollination. When pollen from the anther lands on the stigma of the same flower or another flower on the same plant, this is called self-pollination. Cross-pollination happens when pollen moves from the anthers of one flower to the stigmas of another flower of the same species on a different plant. Flowers that self-pollinate have stamens and carpels that mature at the same time and are set up so that pollen can land on the stigma. The plant doesn’t have to do anything extra to help pollinators eat by giving them nectar and pollen.
